You all are singing one of my favorite old country songs. It was written and sung by my brother-in-law's great great uncle Jimmie Davis. He was a governor of Alabama (if I remember correctly) as well as a popular country singer. My ex hubby had forgotten all about this connection when I had brought it up this past Christmas. I had purchased a children's book of the lyrics for my grandson and we were all sitting around singing it. I mentioned the relation to my ex and he looked at me like I was from outer space and immediately pulled out his cell phone and called his sister up in Tacoma who immediately confirmed it.

My brother in law was named after him (Jimmie Davis). From what I understand Davis acquired the rights to the song from the owner and then changed and added to the lyrics and made it a hit. Just a little music trivia...
