RainRabbit, it sounds like you have leaf miners. Yes, you must control them now, when they are active but hopefully before they begin laying their eggs. Go to your big box or garden center, and choose a pesticide meant to be used in gardens/landscapes that specifically says it will kill and control leaf miners.
