Well I saw some succulents at HD the other day that were actually spray painted to make them more colorful. Then there are those strawflowers that they stick on top of cactus to make it look like they are blooming. I'm sure that there are some people that fall for these deceptions. I see photos in plant catalogs that also are obviously color enhanced. There was a time I would fall for that stuff later to be disappointed.
