I prefer grafted roses, but it's a dying art, so most roses aren't available grafted. Own-root roses are so much easier to grow and can be sold so much earlier. Nurseries with grafted roses typically grow them for 2 or 3 years before they sell them, but I could swear Heirloom grows their own-root roses for only 2 or 3 months before sending them out.
