We already had one clutch hatch. The sellers had a little decorative house up by the garage & those babies fledged. Before I ordered the cedar nest boxes from Lowe's we found an old nest box here that had no floor so we made a floor for it & made it removable so we could clean it out for re-use by the bluebirds. We put it up on the right hand post of the pergola so we can watch everything from the back porch.

Here's a close up of the box --- it's seen better days but I expect it will last this year & next

The same bluebird couple who already had the one clutch has decided to use this box for their second clutch & the kids from the 1st batch are helping them. I read that's what they do. So there are eggs in there now & we expect they will hatch around the 1st week of June as we saw them mating on 5/17.

So we have TWO nests going right now that I know of. We have lots of bluebirds here. I walk among the pecan trees & they are everywhere. I want to encourage them & for them to raise more babies. I am against using pesticides & the pecans get web worms so the bluebirds are my natural control of the web worms. Even if they weren't I would have nest boxes for them as I Lovey dubby them. But I'm not putting out meal worms. That way they go after the web worms.
I am a strong believer in the simple fact is that what matters in this life is how we treat others. I think that's what living is all about. Not what I've done in my life but how I've treated others. ~~ Sharon Brown
