I personally use chelle's approach. The middle button on my mouse (the wheel, actually) when pressed on a link will cause the link to open in a new tab. Then I switch to that tab, do my thing, and then close the tab and I'm back where I was.
Also, if the plant you want is on the page you're viewing, hit Ctrl-F on your keyboard to open an in-browser search that will search your page.
