Thanks for your response. Looking at other online pictures of 'Oranges & Lemons', and now the one on the link that you sent, that's what I thought - that the last picture (the right hand plant) is a match. The nursery at your link describes the seed heads as being "unique" and "chartreuse". There are seed heads in my first picture, but I'm not sure that I would call that color "chartreuse". (If it is, it is on the light side.)

I had the brilliant idea of sanity checking the pots from today's planting (which were fortunately few and all dumped into one place). One pot *was* labeled "Gaillardia 'Oranges & Lemons'", and it was a brown pot. (The uncropped first picture (barely) shows a brown pot, and as i recall the other plant was in an unlabeled black or blue pot (I found one of each in the pot pile).) I bought no other Gaillardia this season, so at least I can be sure of the identity of these two plants (one from the labeled pot, and one from the plastic plant label). I just need to nail down which is which, but at least it sounds like you are in agreement as to my guess which is which. I tip my hat to you.

I think maybe I will let each make at least one seed head, and see what color they are. If the seed head on 'Oranges & Lemons' really is so unique (or at least, relatively more chartreuse), maybe that will nail it.
Evaluating an iris seedling, hopefully for rebloom
