Oh how I miss titmice, we had them in PA and as a child I dearly loved them. My mom was a big believer in feeding birds and it has stayed with me. We dont get the variety of birds here on the farm that we got on the mountains of my childhood, but we are on the migratory highway and get the occasional different kind of bird.
This young Barred Owl lost one of his parents to a car and we had to deliver him to raptor rescue when he became extremely dehydrated. They will return the birds to their original territory if the owner wishes it after they learn to hunt and survive on their own. We see owls dead on the side of the road too often, I hate it.
Most folks can't believe we have such a love for raptors when we have free range fowl but we don't lose birds to them. And I fear for the wild animals as more and more city folk move out here without understanding how to exist in the country instead of the asphalt jungle.
