I have something like that growing in my yard, planted by the birds no doubt. At first I thought it was corn, but it looked different somehow. Then it started branching and I knew for sure it wasn't ear corn then because ear corn doesn't branch. I figured out that it is broom corn, some type of sorghum, especially now that it has gone to flower.
