This foliage appeared in the perennial bed and no clue what it is. Just measured at 30"

Holy cow - I can't begin to guess how corn would end up here. I was hoping it was some kind of exotic perennial. lol

Yep, it's corn. Squirrels plant corn in my container plants every spring.

And as for it being exotic...well, it is in your gardens, right? Big Grin

I have some growing in one of my flowerbeds, too. It's supposed to be an ornamental variety, but as of yet it just looks a bit smaller than most.

I thought it looked more like a Sorghum, or Millet. Well, I guess corn is a Sorghum… *Blush* Still, it could be Millet. A bird feeder nearby?

Millet's quite a bit different, I think.

I'm a bit embarrassed that I've been patiently waiting for 2 mos to see what surprise flower would bloom on my mystery foliage. The good news is I just removed it which gives me the one and only free spot left in the garden.

One time I had a mystery plant come up in a flower bed. I thought my mom had planted something there since she came that year to help me plant my new beds. This thing grew and grew. I couldn't wait to see what it was. I posted pics on DG for help IDing it. Lo and behold it was knapweed! Thank heavens I got it ID'd before it bloomed! I promptly pulled it out. Hilarious!

Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious!

A seed dropped by a bird no doubt, I let one grow one year and did get to see an ear of corn, also had fun watching more birds munching on that corn. They loved it and I swore that I would plant another one. I have not so far, I still want to!

Jennifer that is way too funny. LOL.

I have something like that growing in my yard, planted by the birds no doubt. At first I thought it was corn, but it looked different somehow. Then it started branching and I knew for sure it wasn't ear corn then because ear corn doesn't branch. I figured out that it is broom corn, some type of sorghum, especially now that it has gone to flower.

The squirrel kept forgetting where he buried them, and they would sprout. He needs those post-it-notes.

Must have relatives of that squirrel here. Not a pecan tree within a five house radius, but I have a dozen or more seedlings popping up every year because of forgotten pecans.
