That first one drives me nuts. It's polygonum, aka Smartweed. It breaks off at the ground when you go to pull it. It spreads like crazy here!
The second one is what we call Swamp Mallow, not sure if you have it down there. Both those weeds like pond banks, did you get your soil from a swampy place?
