I'm wondering if Celosia argentea var. spicata is even a legitimate name. I've not been able to find publication details of this name on IPNI or ePIC.
The COL, GRIN, The Plant List and Tropicos don't mention this variety. TPL does mention
C. spicata which is under review by Kew.
MOBOT notes "...Celosia argentea var. cristata is currently divided into four different groups: (1) Plumosa Group, (2) Cristata Group, (3) Childsii Group and (4) Spicata Group"
The
RHS DB notes the same, however I do the search.
I wonder if this may be an instance where common, incorrect, usage among plant sellers gets propagated around.
