I've read lots of posts here on the rose forum and lusting after some of the beautiful plants I saw here and on the Palatine site. I've been afraid of roses for several years, planted 4 David Austins when we lived in Parker CO and not a single one lived, haven't tried again since! I'm thinking of getting several from Palatine: Empress Josephine, Erinnerung an Brod, Leopold Ritter and Ispahan to start because they're supposed to be very cold hardy and I love that full, cabbage rose look. We live in Elizabeth CO now which, according to the local nurseries, is supposed to be zone 4b. In addition to very cold and crazy winds it's typically pretty dry here. I grow lots of peonies and have built raised beds with driplines and heavy mulch, should I do anything more or different for roses? Should they be shaded here and if so, which part of the day? I would appreciate any advice before I manage to make a 2nd expensive rose mistake....THANK YOU!!!!
