Despite a couple of near-freezing nights the last couple of weeks, my big brugs continue to pump out buds! This is a surprise, because in previous years when it has gotten this cold they have all stopped blooming and sulked for a couple of months. They are just too darned tall now to cover effectively, so are left unprotected.

Just idle speculation here, but I have been supplementing their diet all last summer and fall with both Epsom salts and a new product that was recommended for my orchids called Pro-Tekt, The Silicon Solution. Since these two big brugs live in the pool cage and shade the orchids, they have been misted with the orchid stuff, incl. very dilute fert and the silicon supplement for several months. From what I've read, this stuff helps to strengthen the cell walls in the leaves. IF this is true, it might explain why these two big characters have continued to bloom this year, maybe?? Shrug! Anybody else tried this product?

Two other big plants out in the garden look fine, but are not blooming or showing signs of buds. They've both been covered on the cold nights, but did not get any of the silicon spray.
