Without a photo it is hard to determine what you got exactly. This time of the year, another month? you should start noticing growth on the iris, so pretty soon you should know. It is possible that you got a miniature iris. I had some of these once and the rhizome is small, of course so are the leaves. I have had iris though that I dug out trying to get rid of or move and even little pieces of it grew back, they are tough!
