The identity and nomenclature of this species and its closely related neighbors is very much up in the air. These three:

Salvia azurea
Salvia reptans
Salvia pitcheri grandiflora

Are all very similar and more often than not confused in the general nursery trade. The various university resources and botanists are not in agreement with what the differences are between these, and what the names should be. Read enough journals and you will find all manner of naming confusion here. I avoid such debates at almost all cost!

Several named varieties of S. reptans are coming into the market. From what I have seen they are S. reptans, but of course could be hybrids as the range of all of these overlap.
