I don't think it was any wetter than normal, but we had 10 days in Dec that got down in the single digits (normal would be low 20's, upper teens for our coldest). Then it was real mild with only a few light frosts the rest of the winter. I think it just got too cold and stayed there too long and these plants weren't used to it. I don't winter mulch here, never had to before. I may rethink that practice too. The weather is just too unpredictable anymore. I may have to learn how to garden for a colder zone just to be on the safe side.
