I like historics (Stout, Saxton, Lenington) and species but I throw in new hybrids too (Munson, Petit, Warrell, Reed, Mahieu)). Especially spiders. I like simple forms and striking colors, bicolors/bitones, eyes, watermarks, etc. I doubt that's typical but it takes all types and tastes.

One of my favorites has to be Jerry Hyatt (C. Hanson)... I remember the day I first saw it blooming in Curt's seedling field... it just blew me away!

The seedlings from it in Curt's gardens are just amazing.

Anything Hanson!

Those are the only daylilies I buy anymore... I would like to have all of them eventually. I think I might have 50 or so now.

I don't have that one Jules... I just managed Primal Scream over the winter... I LOVED Curt's gardens... absolutely loved them.

This is one I would really love to have... but will have to wait till it comes down in price.

John Rice's "Reining"

It was the most luscious color! Very vibrant. I have a lot of photos of it under the seedling name, R-78

"Reining" is wonderful! I have many favorites. I tend to really like the white ones with near blue eyes like Julie Newmar, Destined to see and Blue Eyed Butterfly. Here's Julie Newmar.

First time posting here so a big hello to you all on this snowy night.

My all time favorite are 3 David Kirchoff, Darla Anita and Alexa Kathryn , not just for their pretty faces but for the fantastic rebloom and these three do fully open, no sticky pie-crust edges!
I love the older daylilies too , fav many, many favorites in my garden.

This is an OLD one, but has to be in my top 5.

Penny's Worth

It is the first daylily to bloom for me, and the last daylily to bloom for me. I have had scapes of it on my Thanksgiving table before and that is saying something in central Ohio. It reblooms and reblooms all summer. The foliage is so small and fine, it looks like a clump of grass. It increases well, and I have small clumps of it all through my mixed perennial border.

In this picture, it is planted in the sun just at the edge of the shade from a witch hazel. So it is backed by shade perennials such as small hosta, pulmonaria etc. The blue in the picture are some volunteer violas Johnny Jump Ups.

I think Penny's Worth only gets about 10" tall.

daylily, I have Penny Earned, got it last fall along with a bunch of minatures and other daylilies from a friend who had to get rid of all her daylilies ( she sold then for a living) due to moving. I like your Penny Worth very pretty! How small are the blooms?

Penny's Worth - I think the bloom is about 1-1/2 inches.

Jerry Hyatt - the photo in my avatar is Jerry Hyatt, in Curt's Garden, it's first year blooming in the seedling field. Curt used my picture in his catalog. Jerry is an odd one -- it's blooms can vary quite a bit. I love it when it shows the Leopard spotting like it is in the photo I posted above.

I don't like the big edges at all. I only have a couple daylilies with those big edges... and even they are not very extreme.

I've read somewhere that Penny's Worth has the smallest daylily bloom of all the cv's. Don't know if that's true? But 11/2 " is pretty small. I didn't know it was such a good performer. I'll have to keeps my eyes open for that one. Cute!

Dana, if you like the small ones, another good performer for me is Mary Ethal Anderson. I have it planted in the sun, but right along a shade area... so it is backed up by shade perennials. It is an odd space - my house shades the bed up to about 10" from my sidewalk. That part is full sun. So, I have several small daylilies planted in that 10".

Here is Mary Ethal Anderson. Pardon the cross tags hanging on it. When I got it from Curt Hanson, I *thought** it was a tet. I tried all sorts of tet pollen on it and never did get a viable seed ;-0

In the background is an astillbe, I think it may be Finale.

Maybe we should start a thread for Mini's in the chat/misc. forum.

I wish I knew of more mini's to get. Along my walk, I also have Spacecoast Tiny Perfection, Leprechaun's Lace, and another one that the name is slipping my mind. It has Wild in it.... LOL
