Last year in eastern Georgia (Augusta area - - always very hot summers with high humidity) we had an unusually cool, wet spring and everything bloomed later than what had been typical in previous years. The very first bloom last year came on May 20 (other years FFO was late April), and I had five cultivars with their FFO that day - - 1 early, 3 early-mid-season, and 1 mid-season. It seems that the ones that bloom first change from season-to-season, but the one that had its FFO last has been consistent the last three years - - it is Ruffled Strawberry Parfait and is listed as a late. Its first bloom for 2013 came on June 24. Interestingly enough, only three days earlier (June 21) was the FFO for Spacecoast Plentiful Bounty and the following day was the FFO for Silver Moon Sparkle, both of which are listed as early-mid-season. RSP is the only late I have, but I do have six mid-lates. Here they are with their FFO date for last year: White Base (5/28); Swimming with Sharks (6/2); Venus Flytrap (6-3, it is also evergreen for me although it was registered as a dormant); Cast Your Crown (6/4); Rosy Spiketail (6/8); and Heavenly Pink Fang (6/22). Yes, there are a variety of sun/shade times for different places in my garden, but Ruffled Strawberry Parfait got as much sun as anywhere. Spc Plentiful Bounty got a lot more shade, but Silver Moon Sparkle might have only gotten an hour of sun a day less than RSP, and Rosy Spiketail was only six feet away from RSP.
