Most of the time, I don't get to see a second year "bloom/color/plant" to see how they are after the first year. Since I grow a lot of Salvias that aren't hardy for me, they die with the frost/freeze.
One notable exception is Salvia 'San Carlos Festival'. It has survived several Winters here in a container on the driveway. The flowers have a richer color and the plant looks larger/fuller. Or it could be that I didn't cut back the branches. It survived another Winter and it was a very cold, very snowy and very 'long' Winter. I got another pot of SCF from Kermit (Flowers By The Sea) and plan to plant it in the same container with the other SCF. I love this Salvia!
I'm pretty sure it's a 24 inch container that it's growing in.
