Ann, Mother Nature will take care of it. If not this year then at some time in the future. We do absolutely nothing back there as there is a significant slope to the area with huge pieces of granite. In the fall every year I do weed whack all of the understory to the ground. I leave the leaf fall down until the following spring. Whacking all the understory down the previous fall makes blowing the leaves around much easier the following spring.
