Appears to me that only 12 threads received replies yesterday. That doesn't seem so busy that a user gets lost on the forum. The daylily forum is somewhat slow IMO and doesn't get that much action, especially if a user is not interested in hybridizing or the latest intros. But it is my understanding that the forum is about only daylilies so that a sale for daylilies would be appropriate to advertise. If a sale was for a hodge podge of all kinds of plants, it would not be appropriate. But when it is for only daylilies it would seem appropriate to offer it up in the forum. Maybe a separate sticky thread for sales and advertisements would work? This could work for the iris forum, the peony forum, or other forums that are specific to only one kind of plant.

It has also been common practice to list what a person buys and what they received as bonus and to post pics of an order so users can see what they received. I think initiating a trade or a request for a specific plant is done as well.

I like to purchase from Bill Marryott but I don't check his site constantly. I rather appreciate when someone posts that he is having a sale or a BOGO or that he is taking new orders for the year. I think the key is to name the thread appropriately so that the title lets a user know it is a thread about a sale and doesn't waste time clicking on it if it is something they won't be interested in. After all, the most important thing regarding growing daylilies..... you have to own one first! Obtaining daylilies is a big thing, many people collect them and have several hundred. So advertising dl just seems like part of the game. It would be hard to separate ads, showing off new intros, naming intros, new websites and such, it all seems to mesh together alot.
