I just saw a news flash, 8 million dollars of federal money to be spent on sowing wild flowers. That is just the start. Why? To help the honey bees so they will be able to continue to pollinate the crops. So I think even the early gardeners knew that having flowers around was one way to help grow the crops, flowers are pretty and fun, but they also serve a useful purpose. Still, I grown the crops just to justify the flowers!
