That particular image was taken just as the bloom opened after a storm when the light makes colors vivid, also the angle of the available light is being reflected off the silver overlay.
These two were in 2012, with a Canon G12 that I use for all my images...

Both images were taken early in the morning as the blooms opened The colors will soften a bit as the day goes on. This image is also in the database taken in 2010.
