there was a suggestion that was floating around and I've used it on super stressed plants & it works out great. Get a 1gal milk jug, use a pin to poke like 4-5 holes in the bottom of it, & fill it full of water. Cap it & quickly flip it upside down so you don't dribble everywhere while you carry it to the plant in need. Then put it right-side up next to the plant that you need to water & uncap it. The water will slowly dribble out, deep soaking, and you don't get wash-away or flooding. Just a slow drip drip drip that soaks in & spreads to all the roots. The main thing is to have teeny little holes and not big ones so the water doesn't gush out. That might help & it will control exactly how much water you're giving the plant, plus you can add food or whatever to the water, too!
