Ken, I was told years ago that the person who made the cross should be the one to reg it with it's given name, and if awarded the grower can name that particular plant it's 'special' name. Many times flask are sold off or the hybridizer dies, etc and then a cross gets overlooked until some skilled grower takes his plant to a show and then it's a mess to get its name reg. that's why you need so many clerks at the shows. It wasn't so much a problem when the plants were produced by the great orchid houses back in the 50,60,70's like Rod Mclellen or Jones and Scully.
You get used to names and can ID the source of a plant by the 'special' names such as Marilyn LeDoux names hers all' Windy Hill', or Jo Levy used'magnifico'. But how do you get the x named? The hybridizer also has to pay for naming, and must know what the correct names were of the parents used. But I have seen names assigned after not having one for decades, so maybe there is another way?
Carol, maybe I need to take a nap, it will all make sense in the morning. I get punch drunk when I'm this tired. I hope I don't dream in cap letters.....RLC, BLC..ect
