Ken, I don't understand your confusion about Blc. Mahina Yahiro x C. Ruth Gee 'Diamond Jubilee'. Everything there is registered including the new offspring. Let me go through the process. Your tag shows the parents of the orchid. The first thing I have to do is verify those names are current. In this case, the Blc. has changed to Rlc. on the Mahina Yahiro. So, I look to see if a cross between Rlc. Mahina Yahiro and C. Ruth Gee has been registered and I found it has indeed. The new name of your orchid is Rhyncholaeliocattleya [Rlc.] Exotic's Summer Cloud. Therefore, you can change your tag to read Rlc. Exotic's Summer Cloud. So, what is the issue about something not being registered?

On the second one you gave me like that, Blc. Meditation 'King's Ransom' x Blc. Xanthette 'Chartreuse', I went through the same process. I found that both parents are now Rlc orchids but that their cross has not yet been registered. That could be for various reasons, I have no way of knowing. Perhaps the hybridizer didn't want to fork over the money they charge for the privilege of naming his own orchid.

Thanks, Bert, you are right on.

Melissa, I love your Paphs. Wish I could grow them.

Jim
