Mosquitoes are taken care of by having a screen on top (my Rubbermaid water barrels are made that way). Algae... hmmm, maybe the algae stuff for aquariums? Mine do grow some algae, but we rotate the water out and in enough that it doesn't create a problem here.... but could be a whole 'nother story where you are!!
