I think this is the tool Jan is talking about. It is about 15 inches long and has a slight bend to it. It is good on weeds with deep tap roots... like dandelions. Sink it next to the plants tap root and give it a twist and it should pop out. Got this one from my Grandma.
Not the best pic...Got to clean the crud off it also...it is good at stirring things when it's at arms length away.
