Glad everyone is enjoying the show.
Paul, what distinction do you make between brown and red trumpets? I was following the conversation on the yahoo list and thought they were two different terms for the same colouration? But saying that, Brian Dutton showed me a photo of an incredible ryirube that Joe Hoell considered red. Absolutely stunning. Not red like roses, but definitely more red than brown to my eyes....
Don't know where Lankon went to - only one stem... maybe it had finished flowering for most people.Tangos certainly less evident this year, though Kentucky popped up a bit, and Thesire was there. A few others I can't remember the name of. Anthony benched a nice little seedling:
Was this Oystein's?
Not alot of variety in species, either. The clone that masquerades as
L. leichtlinii was plentiful, and won best species stem. Based on appearance, Judith thinks it could likely trace back to the old Citronella strain. Sorry I forgot to take a photo!
But
L. longiflorum - some glorious stems that were strong contenders for best in show except that the filaments and pistil had been snipped out... I really hope our newly wiser exhibitor comes back next year and gives the boys from up north a run for their money! - abounded and a couple of
L. martagon stems were there:
Rick, I like the many single flowers. It quite often happens that there's a stem of the same variety kicking around, to observe orientation, but not always.... It can be tricky. Sometimes a glance behind the flower at the bottle neck and pedicel reveal a flower benched upside down!
