10 days ago we found a female Gambrel's Quail's nest with 5 eggs in it right in the middle of the lettuce. Everyday since she has returned to the nest and deposited another egg. Now there are 15 eggs and I'm pretty sure that she's about to sit now.

We had the same thing happen last year in the beets. I don't know if quail return to the same area to nest each year. Anyway, we're granting her squatters rights on the lettuce until she's hatched her brood.

Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting ‘...Holy Crap ...What a ride!'
