I hit the button too quickly earlier...where are the photos of the pods and the beans? That would sure be helpful.

Try looking at Phaseolus lunatus ( Dr. Martin's Lima Bean ) or Phaseolus lunatus ( Jackson Wonder Lima Bean ) as either of them can sometimes have variegated leaves.

For some reason I had it in my mind that someone told me that they use the Phaseolus vulgais Beans in those kits? But those are not Lima beans.
