After all the daylilies and irises I've ordered I did splurge and buy some dahlias at Winco. Not sure if this grocery chain is in other states but several are near me here in Apple Valley, (and the cost just goes on the grocery receipt!) All the boxes were marked "dinnerplates" but if they are not that's fine because it's always windy here and small is probably better. For $1.98 each I picked ; Seattle, Contraste, Bristol Stripe, Procyon and Hy Impact. I have always loved the little dahlias so as long as these grow, (and bloom) I will be pleased. I too like the idea of no shipping but our local 'garden centers' HD and L have very little to offer here in the desert. The closest Armstrong nursery is an hour away and all the other real nursery centers have been gone a long time. So it's either my gas or the shipping company's and it's fun to get packages and avoid the traffic....
