All 3 of the haws you all mentioned above, are related, some list them as ssp, others as 3 or more species, they all spiral, but it's just not so noticeable...the leaves on gregs are flat folded and popped out, haws are just so variable, and interbreedable, DNA research is already showing some wild results!
Reinwartii, coarctata, and any synonyms or related species will actually take neat full sun, and require more than the low growing types.
A good example of the plants telling you what they like, the tiny window types, like to hide from the sun, and our eyes! While the above group grows tall thru the brush to get more sun. Cool plants!
Mine aren't looking so hot right now, I leave mine pretty dry over winter, a lot of times you can pull the plant right out of the soil this time of year... All the succulent, but tender roots will die, but the tough leaves and gnarled base will hang on and pump out fresh roots soon, it defiantly sets them back but better safe than rotted, they really recover from this type of abuse.
Rot can run up the stubby stem and take em down before you spot it!
It's a real bummer!
It did teach me to that haw leaves root! The window types can be tricky tho! Great vids on YouTube!
After I figured that out I had to keep from picking them to pieces!

I really expect that if things keep pace, there's going to be done downright amazing hybrids!
There already is!
The process from seed to mature form is about 6 years!
I'm sure there's 1000's of promising seedlings around the world now maturing as we speak, given the current price of some I bet there's tons of them being planted right now!
Please tree mail me for trades, I'm ALWAYS actively looking for more new plants, and love to trade!
