Sabrina - There probably isn't much you can do to protect them (that I can think of). BUT ... the biggest concern would be if the scape with the pod were to break from the storm. What I have done (and it did work for me) is to use a bamboo stake or something else thin, yet very sturdy to stake the pod scape to keep it upright. IF your scape breaks and the pod is far enough along, you could put the scape (with pod) into a vase of water to keep it going until it matures. BUT that only works if the pod is far enough along in growth to finish ripening. I would definitely stake the pod scapes. That very well may help protect them from breaking.
