I used the shallower crate to save on potting mix because I thought I'd be transplanting them to the garden sooner than this *Blush* But they're actually fine even after a couple of months.

My grandfather used a method similar to yours for restraining over-achievers. He used to grow mint in a bucket with the bottom missing, sunk into the ground.
