Thanks for the inputs! I've looked up hundreds of species (by both Kal and Bryophyllum) but can't find one that looks like my plant, with purplish foliage (on a site that's reliable, not flickr, photobucket, pinterest.)

These are the species I've ruled out so far (and have most of them):
beauvardii
beharensis
blossfeldiana
citrina
crenata
delagoensis
diagremontiana
eriophylla
fedtschenkoi
gastonis-bonnieri
laetivirens
longiflora
luciae
marmorata
millotii
orgyalis
pinnata
pumila
tomentosa
x houghtonii

My plant has been in the ground in the sun since June... several species of Kal are starting to form buds now. Hopefully this will be one of them!

What kind of Kalanchoe did you describe at the end of your post, Tarev?

The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The 2nd best time is now. (-Unknown)
