We live in the middle of row crops and down a little ways is grazing pasture. Very few areas of wildness, so I will grow anything native that suits my area, focusing on Tallgrass Prairie, but I "play" near the house, even growing a few natives that aren't from Iowa.
The last seed mix I bought was called "Jungle Prairie". Not only are many species tall, they are some of the most aggressive natives. We planted an eighth of an acre and hope it spreads readily to nearby areas of the pasture.
Our dog seems to like Maximilian Sunflowers, but he'll have to find something else to chew on since we shrunk his fenced in area. He likes grasses, too and there's plenty of that.
