I have nothing against a "chat" thread, but I do think the chat should be confined to it's own thread. I don't think we want to run off the other Pacific Coast people with Ca. chat on flower threads. I have all but dropped the Ca. forum on DG since it denigrated to "thought for the day". It has nothing to do with gardening. I, personally find this stuff interesting, as I've been in So. Cal for 55+ years, but I doubt that it's of much interest to our northern, or southern neighbors.
