We prepared some new beds again today, added a lot of sand. There are 4 out here. I think we will just add some no id Iris's for now.
I think this has got to be one of the hardest things for me to do. Reading and marking all that I used to have. Heart Crushing really in a sense.
After working for a few days digging the ones that were good yet and didn't seem to have any problems and moving them to a new location... it really is almost overwhelming when I try to look at what all there was. Not just the purchased ones... but the ones I know I might not be able to replace, the ones from dear friends. YES that hurts the worst!!
OK.. here I go, almost starting over, and I CAN do this! This is where the survivors of the bunch have found their home.
I want to say YUCK... I've came across so many of these nasty little critters this year my skin wants to crawl away.
One of the old beds is in the process right now of being re-worked. A good toss, drench, another toss, some sand and a final go around... perhaps it will be ready tomorrow. We shall see. Then on to the other 3.
For the ones I lost... I guess more for my extra reference I'm putting them on the list here at ATP so that I know which ones I would really like to try to replace.
This is GOING to get better!! I think I'm deteremined now more than ever.
The year started out with cool temps and late frosts... blooms were going good and plants looking awesome.
With a few oddities here and there.
The winds were so strong and beating the blooms to the point we decided to plant more trees for the future years.
In spite of the problems that the iris's were hit with there was still some beautiful little blooms.
The blooms are the only thing that keep me fighting this fight...and I thank God for giving me good friends with sound advice, otherwise I no doubt would have given up. All the beds look like this unfortunately, so we are starting to re-work them and clean up what is left.
The tator's are up and Everyone is enjoying being able to be outside.
The corn is way higher than knee high, before the 4th of July ;-) and it is tasseling!
Hubs starts building the fence for the Chinese long beans.
Veggie gardens doing good!
Can't keep the girls out of the peas.. lol
Lilies are in bloom now...
Abbey insists that they be "pollin'd" as she puts it... and tells me that is her job -- not bad I don't think for a 6 yr old.
Had a few problems with the lilies too...my first experience ever with any virus's running through them. Breaks my heart, but lesson learned.
Hope the rest of the season goes smooth for not just my little farm but everyone else as well!
The last week has either been raining, misting, or too humid to work outside. The weeds are growing like crazy. Nothing can calm the mosquitos (little vampires.) Every time I go to take pictures of the new blooms I have to fight to keep my camera lense fog free. I'm thinking about starting to grow some tropical plants & then just haul them into the house for winter time. At this point I bet they'd grow gangbusters!!
YAY... There was actually some flowers mixed in with all the weeds (who knew~ just kidding)!! This year has been a doozy for weeds, we have had perfect conditions for them... and it is so hard to keep them under wraps. Forgive the tomato cages, I ran out of room in the veggie gardens & had no other spots to put these little guys this time around.
