One of the popular pre-1900 antiques still available. Others being Black Mexican, Country Gentleman, Howling Mob, Truckers Favorite. Decent production, flavor superior to field corn, huge ears.

The standard for sweet corn in this area. A 1960 introduction that is still going strong. Late maturation (90 day) with large well-filled ears. Has excellent taste even when compared to newer varieties. This is the variety that started the comeback of white corn. Very productive here.

My best white second early. A 74 day variety that appproaches main season taste. Very productive.

An early 67 day white from Syngenta. Good flavor and production for an extra early. Small plant and ears. Flavor does not approach main season varieties, however. I sometimes plant Silver Knight, Silver Princess, Silver King, and Silver Queen in a single early planting for extended harvest

A 1994 white se hybrid from Mesa Maize. Ears are 8 inches with 16 - 18 rows. It is about 4-5 days earlier than Silver Queen, but a much smaller plant with a slightly smaller ear. Good texture and flavor, but I prefer Silver King in this slot.

A Ferry Morse introduction (1986) that is very early. Good quality white for a 65 day variety. Tolerates Georgia conditions if planted early (March). Small ears. Not great but adequate.

Serendipity does well here. Not my favorite but quite adequate. Main season with 8-inch ears. Good flavor. Touted for long shelf life, but I don't wait for more than a hour to pass between the field and the pot, so I did not try it for that.

This 1946 introduction from Robson has apparently been discontinued. In the 50's and 60's it was very popular in Southwest Virginia. Main season, large well filled ears with Golden Bantam flavor.

Outstanding flavor and visual appeal. Good production on 5-6 ft plant.

I tried Quickie in the late 90's. It is a very early bi-color, which is productive in an early planting. It has better taste and texture than most extra-early varieties, but it is inferior to later-maturing varieties.

Grew this one back when I was searching for an early corn. It is an early, tiny plant with tiny ears of yellow corn. Flavor is inferior to field corn.

The first bi-color I grew back in the 70's. It is still competitive. Good flavor and production. Main season

This is the best tasting corn I have eaten to date. Mid early medium size plant with nice size 8 inch ears. Good production and because it is a synergistic, it does not need to be isolated. The only white in the Mirai series.

Merit is still a competitive yellow in this area. While most folks prefer whites or bi-colors, Merit is the favorite yellow. Folks call it the "silkless" corn because its great feature is the ease of cleaning the ears. It is productive, large uniform ears, with good husk cover. Main season with Golden Bantam flavor. Introduced in 1961.

I seem to have bad luck with culivars that start with "L." Compared to Lancelot, Luscious performs ok, but certainly not anything to write home about. It does have good flavor, but does not have the vigor to be competitive with good performers. It also shoots low, which makes it attractive to critters.

A midseason Se hybrid that is supposed to grow a large 7 foot plant with 8-9 inch ears. My climate did not suit, so performance here was very poor. Probably better in Northern locations.

Kandy Korn, introduced 1977, raised the mark for flavor. Plants are mid size and have an attractive reddish coloring. Ear are good size and fill out nicely. One of the best in its time and still an excellent home garden variety.

I grew this one as a late corn in the 70's. Very large ears (9 inch) and very productive. Biggest fault is that the ears frequently grew out the end of the husks and invited sap beetles for a feast. The habit also made it quite attractive to common grackles. The pericarp was also tougher than normal. I replaced it with Golden Queen and then moved on to whites and bi-colors.

A shoe peg type like Country Gentleman, introduced by Burpee. While a good substitute for Country Gentleman, It has no advantages that I have observed.

The first SH2 I ever tried. Produced ok, but I did not like either the taste or the texture. Just too sweet and the texture did not appeal to me. A white hybrid with large ears and plant.
