[ Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus 'Century Star') | Posted on October 22, 2021 ]

A new triploid (seed less) melon from Chia tai. Fruits are round black with yellow spots and average about 10 lbs. It shows Moon and Stars heritage. A 75 day melon that is earlier than Sugar Baby and has a similar growth pattern.

[ Jalapeno (Capsicum annuum 'Pot-a-peno') | Posted on October 21, 2021 ]

A compact hybrid Jalapeno designed for container gardeners. Early with small fruits.

[ Hot pepper (Capsicum frutescens 'Buffy') | Posted on October 21, 2021 ]

A Tabasco type hybrid producing a good yield of juicy, thick-walled green to red fruits on strong, healthy upright plants. The peppers are held high on the plant adding ornamental value to the garden.

[ Shallot (Allium cepa 'Creme Brulee') | Posted on October 21, 2021 ]

This new variety from Bejo is described as follows: Easy to peel, single-centered bulbs have a bright coppery pink outer skin and a pretty rosy-purple interior with thick rings. The sweet tender bulbs are earlier to mature than the comparisons and have a slight citrusy flavor when eaten raw. When caramelized, things get even better as the natural sugars are enhanced and do not leave any overpowering aftertastes''. 98 days from transplant. Need two inch spacing.

[ Eggplant (Solanum melongena 'Icicle') | Posted on October 19, 2021 ]

A long white (7.5 X 1.5 inch) fruit on a 48-inch plant

[ Sweet Potato (Ipomoea batatas 'Evangeline') | Posted on October 19, 2021 ]

This entry from LSU is touted as the sweetest sweet potato available having twice the sucrose content of Beauregard. It has rampant vines with young growth deep purple. Under my conditions , yield is average. Roots are more uniform in size and shape than Beauregard. It does have a peculiar growth pattern. It grows a thick mainstem and the edible roots form along it t. They grow deep , 12 inches or more below the soil.

[ Honey Dew Melon (Cucumis melo var. inodorus 'Sweet Delight') | Posted on August 3, 2021 ]

Sweet Delight has been a dud for me during a 3 year trial. When conditions are right it is a big beautiful honey dew. However it is very disease susceptible. When it survives to fruiting stage, it cracks and attracts every critter from two counties. Few good fruits get to ripe stage as it has a long season (100 day+). It just is not adaptable to my growing conditions.

[ Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus 'Jade Star') | Posted on July 21, 2021 ]

A hybrid (diploid) icebox melon. Sugar Baby type. It is about 10 days earlier ripening than Sugar Baby and twice the size. Flavor and texture are good but fall short of Crimson Sweet on my taste buds. Good production for me and held up well during a wet spell without splitting. Had splitting among the control group. Vines are smaller than the controls (Sweet Favorite and Compadre).

[ Cantaloupe (Cucumis melo 'Lilliput') | Posted on July 17, 2021 ]

A three-inch-round, eastern-shipper type, personal-size melon with dark orange flesh. High brix. Lightly netted with minimum sutures.

[ Honey Dew Melon (Cucumis melo var. inodorus 'Honey Pearl') | Posted on July 11, 2021 ]

An early (74 day) white fleshed 4-5 lb. hybrid. Flavor is not typical honey dew, more like an Asian pear. Reasonable production under my conditions.

[ Honey Dew melon (Cucumis melo var. inodorus 'Honey Comb') | Posted on July 11, 2021 ]

A Japanese green fleshed hybrid honey dew from Takii. Mid early maturation (78 day). Melons run 5-6 lbs. and plant is resistant to Powdery Mildew. Not as early as advertised but productive.

[ Honey Dew Melon (Cucumis melo var. inodorus 'Honey Dew, Orange Flesh') | Posted on July 11, 2021 ]

This one of the original honey dews, second only to the old green fleshed honeydews. Long season 110 day) medium size 3-6 lbs. Open pollinated.

[ Honey Dew Melon (Cucumis melo var. inodorus 'Magic-To-Dew') | Posted on July 11, 2021 ]

A 92 day Honeydew with fruits averaging 4 lbs.Tolerant to Fusarium and Powdery Mildew. Does well here, but season may be a little long for more northerly growers. Good flavor. Similar to Honey Brew but a shade larger.

[ Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum 'Gabrielle') | Posted on July 7, 2021 ]

Gabrielle is a good producer under my conditions. Nice clusters of small semi-elongated fruits. It is indeterminate but vine is more compact and manageable that most cherry tomatoes. 5-6 feet max.

[ Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum 'Jamestown') | Posted on June 14, 2021 ]

This Seminis variety has 8-10 ounce fruit on a compact 3-4 foot vine. It has the heat setting gene and sets deep red tomatoes prolifically in the Georgia heat. My only experience is with in-ground planting, but imagine its compact plant would be ideal for containers. Disease package includes Fusarium and Grey Leaf Spot.

[ Chinese Cabbage (Brassica oleracea 'China King') | Posted on June 9, 2021 ]

Performed very well here. Got a bit of tip burn during the heat wave, but did not impair the heads. Smaller size heads are more convenient for my use, and also allow for denser planting.

[ Beet (Beta vulgaris 'Camaro') | Posted on June 4, 2021 ]

Very uniform development with good color.

[ Leek (Allium ampeloprasum 'Zermatt') | Posted on June 1, 2021 ]

First time growing leeks, but they did ok. Only difference between planting onions and leeks is that I transplanted the leeks in the bottom of a 6 inch furrow. Onions just barely in the ground. Hilled up the leeks, no dirt on the onions. Used the same timing. Zermatt was quite satisfactory, but I had no variety for comparison.

[ Summer Squash-Crookneck (Cucurbita pepo 'Mabel') | Posted on June 1, 2021 ]

A very productive semi crookneck. Medium size vine. Doing well under my conditions.

[ Onion (Allium cepa 'Chianti (Red)') | Posted on June 1, 2021 ]

A late season red short day Granex type that does well under my conditions. Uniform growth with zero bolting. Bulbs average 3 inches with visually appealing dark red color.
