[ River Birch (Betula nigra) | Posted on December 9, 2012 ]

Do not prune the river birch between May 1st and August 1st, as this is the time period when the bronze birch borers are out in full force.

[ Golden Lotus Banana (Musella lasiocarpa) | Posted on December 9, 2012 ]

Tropical or Tender Perennial, needs consistently moist soil and cannot dry out between watering.

[ Sawara Cypress (Chamaecyparis pisifera 'Golden Mop') | Posted on December 4, 2012 ]

This shrub gets about 6 hours of morning sun and it's just enough to give it the golden color.

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Blue Lake') | Posted on November 22, 2012 ]

4-way branching (2 laterals + terminal 'y').

[ Hosta 'Fire Island' | Posted on October 22, 2012 ]

[ Hosta 'Fujibotan' | Posted on October 22, 2012 ]

Even though the scapes are very tall for this small plant of mine, they did not fall over!

[ Hosta 'Grand Tiara' | Posted on October 21, 2012 ]

This is the only Hosta that sat in full sun all summer and did not fry or receive even half the water that the others got. Very tough hosta.

[ Hosta 'Emerald Ruff Cut' | Posted on October 20, 2012 ]

Doesn't seem to mind a bit of sun.

[ Hosta 'June' | Posted on October 20, 2012 ]

Every 'June' will look different depending on how much sun it gets. I have three and they are all different. I really like that.

[ Diamond Grass (Calamagrostis brachyathera) | Posted on September 21, 2012 ]

I planted this in the driest part of the yard where there are loads of tree roots and the soil is bone dry. It thrives where nothing else will. Also, when the morning dew is on the flowers they sparkle in the sunlight, thus the name 'Diamond Grass.'

[ Hybrid Hardy Hibiscus (Hibiscus 'Lord Baltimore') | Posted on August 16, 2012 ]

It comes back every year bigger and better. It's drought tolerant, but will not bloom unless it rains. Mine has grown to be almost 7 feet tall and 6 feet wide. Flowers are about 8 inches wide.

[ Morning Glory Tree (Ipomoea carnea) | Posted on August 5, 2012 ]

Very easy to grow.

[ Hosta 'Chôkô Nishiki' | Posted on May 26, 2012 ]

Also known as H. montana 'Choko Nishiki'. Hosta 'On Stage' is a sport of H. montana. Bright, golden-yellow, thick leaves with irregular green margins. A fast grower. Sun and Slug resistant.

[ Butterfly Bush (Buddleja davidii) | Posted on May 21, 2012 ]

Many of the modern cultivars of Buddleia davidii have dramatically reduced fertility and are not invasive at all. Many hybrid cultivars (such as ‘Blue Chip') are almost completely sterile and pose no threat. Some low viability selections include, Buddleia ×weyeriana, Buddleia fallowiana, Buddleia hemsleyana, Buddleia longifolia, Buddleia macrostachya, and Buddleia nivea.

[ Hosta 'Glory Hallelujah' | Posted on May 14, 2012 ]

A sport of H. 'Paul's Glory', this plant has the opposite colors of its parent with dark green leaves and yellow to gold margins which are heavily corrugated. Pale lavender flowers open in midsummer.

[ Oleander (Nerium oleander 'Punctatum') | Posted on March 20, 2012 ]

Oleanders are hardy, low-maintenance, drought-tolerant shrubs with pretty flowers over a long period.
Good for coastal gardens, screening hedging, also wind and fire break.
Tolerates neglect and light frost once established.
