This is one of my favorite semps. Starting in the spring it puts on quite a show of lovely red color. By summer it looks as if it is wearing a tan petticoat, and even the offsets follow suit with greenish/tan petticoats. It is quite striking.

Red Lion has proven to be a show stopper though out the year. All of its color changes are stunning and it has proven to be able to stand up to my Pacific Northwest rainy season. If it's happy and growing well it is a good producer of offsets.

    S. 'Ann-Marie' was one of my first fuzzy type semps. She has gone through several years here at my place. In-spite of record-breaking wet seasons (2011) and record-breaking heat and drought, she has continued to be healthy and very productive.

    S. 'Ali' was given to me in a trade spring of last year (2010). I have now taken it through a very wet winter/spring, which was a record breaker for us. Ali had no problems with the the extended heavy rain. No rot and it didn't even slow it down in the production of many offsets. I consider this a very tough little semp.

Affine is a tough little sempervivum and a prolific producer of offsets. This is my first year with this plant, I have yet to take it through our long wet winter/spring season.

Small rosettes up to 1" across, showing lite webbing. Very productive and easy to grow.
In the spring it is bright green with red leaf tips, the offsets have heavier cobwebbing. Completely green by Oct in the Pacific Northwest.

    Update Feb. 15, 2012
It has proven to be more than capable of coming through our very wet cool winter season. Not a sign of rot.
I have observed over this last year that the young offsets appear to have heavy webbing, with very little present on the mature rosettes. Webbing all but disappears by fall and reappears in the spring.

This is the first year for me with the Sempervivum. It has a rich burgundy/red color and velvety feel to the leaves.

This is an extremely sturdy sempervivum for me here in zone 4. Once it's established, it can handle just about any type of weather.

Fame Montrose is noted for its unusual rosettes of very thick leaves. A single rosette may be either thick leafed or have normal looking leaves. A single rosette of either form can produce normal looking leaves, thick leaves, or produce both types from the same rosette.

The chicks are on very short stolons and remain close to the hen.

  • By goldfinch4 (Ripon, Wisconsin) on Jul 16, 2011 7:14 AM concerning plant: Hen and Chicks (Sempervivum 'Tederheid')
'Tederheid' does not do well with lots of moisture in the spring (in my zone 4 garden). Chicks are on long stolons. Fast grower.
