Going to use this post to make a list of reading goals for 2021. Think I'll start small with just a few. I'll update it with some more later, if I'm making progress. Let's see how I do. Smiling

COMPLETE:
1. Brilliant Green (Stefano Mancuso)

2. The Revolutionary Genius of Plants (Stefano Mancuso)

3. Extraordinary Insects (Anne Sverdrup-Thygesson)

4. Entangled Life (Merlin Sheldrake)

5. Around the World in 80 Plants (Jonathan Drori)

GOALS:

6. The Language of Butterflies (Wendy Williams
* In progress

7. In Defense of Plants (Matt Candeias)

8. Climate Change Science (John C. Mutter)

I mostly read nonfiction and the occasional fantasy or fantasy/horror (Clive Barker, woo! 'Imajica' is still one of my favorite novels of all time. I highly recommend it.)
Been really enjoying nonfiction novels lately, so... I'll make my first four from that collection. Smiling

Imajica, yes! Love it. You like Clive, try Galilee.
I haven't thought much about this. I usually go to thrift stores and pick up books that I like. I do have my favorite authors. I would like to read Joe Hill after seeing the tv adaptation of his NOS4A2.
And I would like to find some recent Sigma force novels by James Rollins.

I do have Galilee actually. Just haven't gotten around to reading it yet. I have Coldheart Canyon to read as well. Found hardcover copies of both of them in great condition a while back when our library was selling some of their books. Got them really cheap too. Smiling

I want to reread Imajica and Weaveworld some time. Those were my two favorites of his. Smiling

I may treat myself to a couple of William Gibson books - in real book form, not Kindle. Kindle is all right - I keep it in the greenhouse, for when I'm heating the tanks and keeping Sammy company - but for reading in bed, which is a prerequisite for sleep, a physical book is better.

Almost finished re-proofreading my own book - found ten mistakes. Aaaarrrghhh! Too late; it's already printed.
Behind every opportunity is a disaster in waiting.

i recommend train dreams by denis johnson. it's a very short biography of a fictional laborer in the american west at the start of the 20th century. it's written very beautifully.

I'm reading a weird book called the Prophetess, by Barbara Wood. A take on early Christianity, talks about women's role in the early Church. It's pretty good, a female protagonist, car chases, spies, lots of intrigue. Might look up more books by the same author.

Wow,
people around my library are hitting the books! We've had a heavy couple days of pulling books for requests. As one lady said, "What else is there to do?" between weather and covid Rolling my eyes.
Ronnie, there should be a version that says not gardening enough too Hurray!

I finished "Anxious People" by Fredrik Backman. He was the author of A Man Called Ove. If you liked Ove, you'll probably like this book. Honestly, it was a chore to read at times, but I really liked it when finished. It's lots of mini plots rolled into one book. Recommended.

I sort of like Crawdads about her living alone in a swamp.. but found other parts so unrealistic. So Karen, I am with you.
Ronnie have you ever read David Rosenfelt? Mystery series, with dogs! Some clever writing. You might like to try one. And if you like one, you've then got about a dozen to read after.
Plant it and they will come.

Still working on Hilary Mantel's The Mirror and the Light, the last novel in a trilogy about Thomas Cromwell, who served Henry VIII.

Thumb of 2021-01-17/subarctic/461d23

Long historical novels can be a slog, but Mantel's writing is brilliant: great descriptive work and crackling dialogue. She really puts the reader in the frame.
