Zuzu, sorry about the dislexic typo. I just do that sometimes. I almost always have Merriam-Webster Dictionary site open on the next tab over but names often trip me up. You wouldn't think someone who worked so long in cataloging and coding in libraries would have such a problem, but there you have it. No offence meant towards Mortimer, either!
We have been going back and forth as to whether that rose was Sir John or The Dark Lady. I've had that rose for three years. The thing is, the blooms are easily 3" across if not more. Can't seem to get a bloom size on The Dark Lady from the website, but the size does fit SJB. I did get that rose from Chamblee's, but as a NOID in the sales tent (the NOIDS are $2-3 depending on when you are there). They often have roses in there that are not part of their regular "line-up". And that is the problem. Of the five I just bought from Chamblee's (Oh, yes! I bought them! I was trying hard to stick to my budget or else I would have bought all of the Cordelia's they had!) none are listed in their current catalog. Two of them are grafted and that is not usual for Chamblee's. All five have the Austin tags on them. Whatever that rose is, the blooms are huge and they come in big flushes. Since Chamblee's and DA are within spitting distance of each other in Tyler, I suppose it would be possible for Chamblee's to be testing roses for DA or whatever. To be honest, it doesn't really matter to me if that rose is Sir John or TDL. It is kind of an academic thing for me. But it does look like some sort of Austin, doesn't it?
And yes again, I did buy those roses as well as hanging baskets from Breedlove's and a bunch'o'stuff from Blue Moon. And a birdhouse from the Edom birdhouse guy! Everyone at my house was out of town for the weekend including the visiting relatives, so I was left to my own devices. See what happens!
And I'm having trouble with the little smiley face guys as well. Sometimes they work for me and sometimes not. Oh well =~)!
