My Adenium does not seem to feel to well. Its been like this for a couple of months.
Should I be worried. Recently the stem has been feeling a bit soft.
It now only have one leaf left.

I think its hibernating, so I have not given it too much water.

Please let me know what I can do to help my Adenium.

Your soil looks damp, it should be really bone dry this time of year. It does not look like a happy plant at all, I agree.
I would pull it out of its pot and check for rot.

The soil was really dry this morning. I've read somewhere that the stem should not get soft, so I panicked and gave it some water.

One of the rules I learned last year was 'when in doubt do NOT water'. I would still dig it up at this stage to check what is going on underneath the soil. Remember what happens to the leaves and branches is usually directly related to what happens underneath! Good luck and keep us posted.

I have checked the roots now and they look really nice.

Please let me know your opinion regarding the condition of the roots.

I have also re potted the plant after exposing the roots. So its now back in the pot.

Lucky you, at least you still got good roots....the Adenium I got late Oct last year died just removed it from the pot today. have stopped watering it in mid-November and I thought it was going hibernating dropping all the leaves, but then the branches and stem softened. I should have removed it from the container then. ..left it alone to see if it will heal but alas, nothing there now, really just a rotten core. a sharp live and learn curve for me..

Since the roots look fine I have given it some more water and also started a heat treatment to make it feel more comfortable.
I am still concerned about the soft stem and the fact that all but one leaf are gone.
The stem have been soft before when I did not water it for about 1 month and then I gave it some water which made it feel better, at that point it still had leaves.
I am confused what I should do now.

in my opinion if any stem is soft you are losing it and watering will only make it worse, normaly if a stem is soft you cut off the soft spot and hang up the plant for it to heal so you can save the rest of it.

Look at that!! Zone 5a!!! BRRRRRR. And dark. Your plant should be leafless, unless it has it's own hot house, kept in the 60's at night and warmer during the day, and artificial grow lamp.

I would say that you should have repotted in barely damp, not wet, potting mix, and not watered. Never press or pack the potting mix, hold the plant and jiggle the pot to settle the mix. Thr roots need air circulation. Is your mix mostly peat? Too dense. Fluff the surface, so wetness can evaporate, and maybe give the plant a break from being inside the ceramic pot. No air circulation in there.

Is the heater blowing on it? That's kind of odd. Would you be comfortable all around like that? Or hot one side, cold the other?

I would hold off on any fertilizer until spring. The stems look too green.

Hum, after looking at your photos again, I would dump the thing out of the pot, again!, and repot with just barely damp, fluffy mix, and no watering. Do the trees outside your window have leaves?

Loosing leaves is no big deal.They will come back when the plant is happier with it's conditions.Let's not confuse soft with mushy.Soft means a plant needs water.Mushy means dig a hole to bury it in.In other words,if you can press on the caudex and feel any give at all the plant needs a drink.

Yes, it’s pretty cold here… but at least it’s getting brighter, the sun is up at 7 am and down 5pm and it’s getting better every day.

The soil is a mix of some fine gravel and potting soil. The soil dries quite quickly so I think it’s a good mix. It’s not compact but rather fluffy.

The heater was blowing on the pot to heat it up, but I think it got too hot so I’ve changed strategy now. I’ve put the pot on a radiator which heats up the pot from below. When the heated air from the bottom of the pot meets the cold air from above it will create some circulation around the inner pot. I’ve also added an extra lamp that’s on a timer.

I’ve posted a picture from outside the window, the trees outside have no leaves.

Gone2seed, thanks I hope you’re right. The caudex feels firm. It’s mostly the higher parts that feels soft, not mushy.

Oh, my. That second photo is why I can't handle even looking at a photo of snow.

But then, I grew up in a very poorly heated house, and in a rather formal, unaffectionate family.

The plant is doing better. It seems that the new strategy is working.
The stem is more firm now.

My adenium have several new leaves.

That's cool.
But don't water much.
I killed a couple Adeniums.... I was too generous.
You've got a cool plant, big indeed...but I rather prefer the seed-grown ones cause they develop the caudex. And isn't the caudex what makes Adeniums so interesting?

I'm with you Calin, I like the caudex way more then I like the flower, but different strokes for different folks. I have neighbors who love the flower but ask me why the "root" is so twisted and ugly.

Of course I love the flowers .... so far I've only had one Adenium bloom for me (and well, it died the coming winter) and now I have about 6-7 babies.
Flowers come and go, but the beautiful twisted roots are to stay and grow

The leaves are increasing in numbers and getting larger everyday,
I've also installed a night vision web camera so you can follow the progress 24x7.

It seems to have gone out of hibernation and I am hopping it will soon have flowers
