Was given a starter peppermint plant from a neighbor and realized afterwards by the instructions stick in the soul that it was not raised organically/naturally. If I replant it in organic soil will it eventually push out the toxic pesticides or are they in there for the life of the plant? May sound incredibly silly but I thought it was worth an ask...because I have no clue. If not I don't want to keep it or eat from it knowing most likely it's been given pesticides since it was a seedling. Thank you!

There are no "toxic pesticides" in your plant, relax. The only thing you should worry about when transplanting mint in the ground is that it will grow out of control when the conditions are right.

Welcome! Tally13
A completely reasonable concern about a plant you plan to consume.
What exactly did the label say?

Systemic pesticides are indeed absorbed into plant tissue. Neonicotinoids are known to last for months in plants after soil application and appear in flower pollen where they are harmful to foraging bees.

Effects on humans? I don't know.

Hi & welcome! Agree, without knowing what the label said, it's hard to comment on it.

Doesn't much bother mint... I'd be surprised if anything more than fertilizer was used... And... Mint? Shouldn't even need that!

That said.... there are people who are absolutely Obsessive-Compulsive over their plants, and could well have dumped dangerous systemics all over their plants.

I've read that those Neonicotinoids don't just linger for the season... they are multigenerational! Meaning... they remain in the germ plasm of the seeds, and continue in future offspring!

Found this:

might be worth asking what treatment the plant was given....

FYI
It takes 7 years to accredit farm soil as Certified Organic. That's due to the fact some herbicides & pesticides do not 'disappear' in one growing season.
I applaud your question.
In today's world, retail goods come from world-wide sources where there are no bans on chemical use.
I wish you happy gardening.
