I have a Canon MX922 printer. I print "duplex" most of the time when I don't want to waste paper for something that is more than one sheet. Now, all of a sudden, when i click the "duplex" box, it prints on both sides of the paper, but the 2nd sheet is "upside down". I have changed nothing. Anyone have any suggestions that I can try? I need to print something off that is 35 pages or so, and I don't want it single sheets (if possible).

It did not. Thanks anyway. Now it won't print on the other side at all. I clicked duplex and it printed the 2nd one on another sheet. Grrr......

Maybe try turning off and disconnecting, then reestablishing the connection to the computer, a reboot if you will?
Plant it and they will come.

Anna, did you get it fixed? I have a Canon printer - for the printer settings, under the "print on both sides" thing, there is a choice for "flip on long edge" and "flip on short edge." you need to use "flip on long edge." (assuming you are printing in portrait mode)

Hilarious!

Life used to be so simple... before we had all this technology to "help" us do stuff.

A note on Canon printers and it may apply to others.

I have a Canon Pixma printer. I use their "Image Garden" programme to print photos. I think it's excellent.

But I don't use it that often, I can go a few weeks between printing. So I always do a nozzle check on cheap plain paper before using it and do a clean if necessary.
The print heads can get a bit sticky and not all the colours otherwise print.

This maybe because I don't use Canon ink cartridges as they are a ridiculous price. Pound for pound, printer ink is more expensive than gold.
I buy compatible carts on eBay. My last set of 6 carts was £17.12 post free.

It hasn't happened to me with this printer, but sometimes with non-branded carts the printer won't accept them. But if you keep putting them back in, they eventually will.

I have a love-hate relationship with printers. My previous printer was an Epson Stylus photo RX620. That was brilliant, it would even print contact prints from vintage 35mm transparencies.

But after a few years, a message came up to say it had "reached the end of its usable life." What it actually meant was that the ink waste tank was getting full.
My cart supplier, at the time, gave me a code to put in the machine that bypassed it. So it carried on working.

But it didn't like the change from XL to Windows 10, there weren't any updates at the time, but I think there are now.
My only real criticism of the Pixma, is that it spends an awful long time, "thinking about it" before it prints.

I also only buy generic ink cartridges for my Canon Pixma (I would for any brand printer). They're all ridiculously expensive for their own brand name ink cartridges, it's not just Canon. I don't do much printing, only documents when I do, so the majority of my ink simply dries up from just sitting there, and that's wasteful enough without spending a fortune on the ink.

Before I buy a printer, I first check on prices on their ink and if generics are available. And I'll buy the generics wherever I find them cheapest, either eBay or even Amazon at times.

I have a cheap ($19,99) Canon printer at our winter home. I do nothing with the ink cartridges when we leave. Prints just fine 6 months later. Same with my Pixma here at home. No problem printing when we get back in May.

My computer guy that I had many years ago told me the quickest way to ruin a printer was to use aftermarket ink cartridges in it. I know it's true, I ruined mine by doing that. And he had no skin in the game; he did not sell printers or ink. I have never bought anything other than Canon.

What makes me smile is that with most printer manufacturers, I doubt if they actually make their cartridges. Seems far more economic to buy them in from a dedicated cart manufacturer.
It's a bit like golf balls. They can change the name on them in mid-run. There was a "How It's Made" programme on golf balls on TV, that showed this.
I think "fill levels" in carts, might vary, but I've no information about that.

I've not bought a branded cart for nearly twenty years, the ones I'm buying currently are no different in appearance from the original ones supplied with printer, just the label.

I've never had a printer fail from ink issues, and I've had printers over 7 years old that I finally couldn't finagle even with editing installation packages to get them to work with newer Windows. Or I finally couldn't stand how slow the printing was and just wanted a faster printer. But I've never replaced one because ink somehow ruined anything.

With my Epson that gave the message that it was past its useful life, I knew that the waste ink reservoir was propably nearly full, so occasionally, I just wrapped kitchen roll round as pencil and poked it down the small hole I could see when I opened it up. I did that a few times, so it wouldn't overflow and end up on my desk.
But if I kept the heat on in that room, which is otherwise rarely used, as much would have probably evaporated.

I use generic ink cartridges too - and with my previous printer, which was a Pixma, the printhead died and maybe that was due to using the non-Canon ink? I can't say for sure one way or another what actually happened to it, but I suspect that even if the generic stuff kills a printer off after a few years you would probably have saved enough to buy a new one anyway. I have a Canon TR8500 now and it's much quicker than the Pixma was at printing; the ink cartridges cost more than the ones for the Pixma, but they seem to last forever. (I've been buying them from E-Z Ink on Amazon.)

This company is very good. But tend now to be a bit more expensive than some on eBay. y

Rarely do we use the same amount of ink of each colour.
With them, you don't have to buy the advertised complete sets.
You can have, say, two of one colour and none of another colour, of which you have enough. They'll do any combination. It's cheaper than buying individual carts.

You just have to email or phone your order. The guy who runs it gave me the code to over-ride the message on my Epson stylus photo.
