Does anyone here have problems with rodents getting into their house plants. If so, what is the best way to treat this problem? Thank you.
Happy Gardening :-)

I would be more concerned about rodents being in my house! I would think you need to address how they're getting in and fix that and/or call in professional pest control.

Yes, I've had rodents in the house, in the shed, in the car, indoors, outdoors. House mice, deer mice, packrats, chipmunks, rock squirrels. You name it.
Of course the first step is to keep them out. Screen all the openings, stuff steel wool around the pipes where they come through the wall, keep weather-stripping around doors and windows in good condition. Mice can squeeze through a 1/4 inch opening.
Seal up anything that attracts them--any kind of people food but also pet food and birdseed. Don't leave out water they can get to, including plant saucers.
Clean up any hiding places close to the house--wood piles, boxes, stacks of gardening stuff, etc.
Encourage the predators. Let neighbors' and feral cats hang out. Get a terrier type dog. Don't chase off the hawks and owls.
I start with snap traps, baited with peanut butter. Leave several around the plants. I've also used corn gluten pellets, they seem to work.
When I had pack rats in the walls of my house, I did use some heavy duty rat poison, locked in bait boxes. That was a last-ditch, desperation measure that did work. I wouldn't use it outdoors or anywhere else.
You can do all of this yourself, but I did find a pest control business was helpful in screening small openings around the outside of my old house.
If you have pets or small children around the plants, you're going to have to work a bit harder to keep traps and baits away from them. I found the rat bait boxes helpful for that--you can set a mouse trap inside the bait box and lock it up.
Good luck, let us know what works for you.
They do like to move indoors when cooler Fall weather arrives. Sighing!

I use to have this problem when the weather started getting colder. But ever since my cat got killed by a cayote they have really made themselves at home. My cat was a great hunter. My hubby won't let me have another cat because I am in a wheelchair. He thinks I'm totally useless and wouldn't be able to clean a cat box.i am not happy right now.

Dear, Kind Agoo,
I'm so sorry for the loss of your cat, and that you can't have another one right now. That would make me sad too.
There's really no substitute for a good mouser for keeping the rodents out.
Always remember that your worth is not measured by your "usefulness". Some people may try to tell you otherwise, but it simply is not true. Know this in your heart.
Not to start a war, but it sounds like your husband has not been very "useful" in keeping the mice away!

Colleen, I too and so very sorry you cat was taken away by coyotes. That is a threat here where I live too. Coyotes and bobcats. I am allergic to cats but have dogs. My best little hunter, my Jack Russell, passed away 2 1/2 years ago. I miss her terrible. She was a terror to mice and squirrels.
You might look on Amazon at a product called the Rattinator. It's a trap. I don't have one, but I am considering getting one. A friend in South Florida has one and swears by it.

Confused
Something doesn't seem right with this picture.

I never could stop one of my GFs from doing something that she was determined to do....

The way I've heard it said from old married couples... "it's easier to be forgiven than to get permission".

My cat had kittens this Spring, they're all catching stuff and eating the live prey they're brought by mom... if you was closer, I'd share the wealth...

I think I'd keep my eyes open for someone nearby who could "loan" you a young cat, that was eating wild caught game.

I agree with Stone, but for myself, I'd skip the asking for forgiveness part! Hilarious!

Since you have coyotes there, I'd keep it an indoor cat and not let it roam outdoors. They have automated litter boxes now, would require very little care, and you'd have a great companion and mouser to help keep your house free of rodents. Just the constant scent of a cat around I've found can keep mice out.
